QUOTE:
Harry was on his way to the Quidditch shed to pilfer a broom when a strange tingling sensation came over him and he looked over his shoulder.

Snape leaned against one of the courtyard pillars, arms crossed, long robes draping over his frame. His feet were crossed at the ankles. Sunlight poured in over his shoulder, gleaming off his pulled back hair, cutting the edge of his jaw as he tilted his head to it, as if he had simply been standing there and waiting for the exact moment the sun would hit his face, illuminate it just so. The background of the courtyard was a lawn of grass, so that to a painter's eye he was haloed in green.

His fingers tapped a little on his upper arm, his lips twitched with what some would have guessed was good humour if it had been anyone else, and his eyes narrowed slightly when he finally made contact with Harry's face.

Harry thought for a split second about how long it had taken Snape to orchestrate such an entrance, and then he remembered that Snape didn't care for such things. This entrance on a seeming field of cloth and gold was completely accidental, and therefore to Harry an even greater sign that even nature in all its aspects was to be siding with Snape in the impending argument.

WHY I LIKE THAT FIC:
This fic was written for the [info]snarry_games in 2008. I first read it back then when it was just a day old, saved the file to my ever-growing fanfic folder, and even added the words “NEEDS REC” to it, but I've never got around to actually write a rec. Shame because this fic is so worthy of one! Now, this time around, after I reread The (Un)Professional in the last day or two, it shall have its rec. Here we go:

First of all, let me say this fic is brilliant on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. It pushes a lot of my favorite buttons, one of which is assassin!Harry with Muggle guns and knives! *swoons* You see, this assassin!Harry has a lot to deal with here: There is this mysterious Confidential person who is after him, there is a Hogwarts reunion for the 10th anniversary, there is a quite pissed off, snarky Snape with whom he has unfinished business, and amongst it all Harry has to do his job and delete someone. The thing is Harry now has doubts that what he's doing for a living is still the right thing for him to do.

Sounds familiar? It may be. The fic is an adaption of the movie Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) with John Cusack (mmh), Minnie Drive (yeah) and Dan Aykroyd ("Popcorn"). I didn't know the movie both times I read that fic. It's really not neccessary in order to understand it. But after I have seen the movie now, I can say it really adds to your entertainment (and the fic is so much better than the actual movie).

Now with everything that comes Harry's way you could think The (Un)Professional is a dark fic. But far from it. It's rather full of dark humor and irony. What stood out here was [info]amand_r's fresh, vivid and funny writing style. I had to lol at a lot of things. Especially Harry's wry inner voices, Phineas' portrait, and Ron and the sofa cracked me up hard. :D

This fic is well-crafted and well-written making you glide easily through the 42 k words. Wait till you read the last fighting scene. It shows you that professionalism can be damn sexy. I also loved [info]amand_r's Auror Ron: so capable and experienced.

The (Un)Professional is truly a great and entertaining read. If Snarry is your cuppa and you love a good action fic that makes you laugh, go read it immediately. :)
